Flavia Goldfinger assumed the role of executive director of ILSI Brasil in Spring of this year. She is trained in nutrition (undergraduate) and
marketing (post-graduate) and has over 17 years of experience in the food industry.
Atsushi Uzu is the new executive director of ILSI Japan. Uzu has a Master’s degree in fisheries science and a long and distinguished career with Kao Corporation.

Assessing the Safety of Cosmetic Chemicals: Consideration of a Flux Decision Tree to Predict Dermally Delivered Systemic Dose for Comparison with Oral TTC
This manuscript describes the construction of a decision tree to predict dermal absorption of cosmetic chemicals based on skin exposure scenarios. A predictive algorithm was used based on the Potts and Guy equation for maximum flux adjusted to actual dose. In addition, systemic availability was ranked against oral TTC. Case studies with experimental data indicated reliability of predictions.

This publication describes current micronutrient intakes of the elderly Dutch population and identifies the contribution of nutrient dense foods, fortified foods and dietary supplements to the intake of micronutrients that are often inadequately consumed by the elderly.

Considerations when using longitudinal cohort studies to assess dietary exposure to inorganic arsenic and chronic health outcomes
A limiting factor in longitudinal studies is incomplete data on inorganic arsenic levels in foods being combined with an aggregate consumption of foods with varying arsenic levels into a single category.

Intake of Added Sugar in Malaysia: A Review
This review examined the best available evidence regarding levels of added sugar consumption among different age and sex groups in Malaysia and sources of added sugars. Information was extracted from food balance sheets, household expenditure surveys, nutrition surveys, and published studies. Varying results emerged, as nationwide information on intake of sugar and foods with added sugar were obtained at different times and used different assessment methods.
