In Memory of Chen Chunming

ILSI Focal Point in China

Professor Chen Chunming, founder and past Director of ILSI Focal Point in China (1993-2004), passed away on May 15 at the age of 93 in Beijing, China. As a world-renowned nutritionist, who worked in population nutrition and nutrition policy research throughout the entirety of her career, her impact is profound. Among many accolades, Professor Chen Chunming was the pioneer in setting up the national nutrition and health survey system in China. She will be greatly missed. Read more.

ILSI North Andean: New Executive Director

ILSI welcomes Claudia Manzano as Executive Director of ILSI North Andino, effective June 1. Claudia is a nutritionist, dietitian, and specialist in food science and technology from the National University of Colombia with more than 16 years of experience in the food industry working in areas of marketing, nutrition and product development, among others. Claudia succeeds Olga Lucia Mora Gil. Thank you to Olga Lucia for her leadership and her work during the last four years. Read more.

ILSI welcomes Hideyo Nakamura as the Executive Director of ILSI Japan, effective July 1. Hideyo has more than 14 years of experience in marketing and business management for functional food and beverage. Hideyo succeeds Uzu Atushi who was with the organization for 2.5 years. Thank you to Uzu for his leadership and we look forward to continuing to work with him in the future.

In 2018 ILSI SEA Region celebrates its 25th anniversary. Marking this important milestone, the 2018 ILSI SEA Region Annual Meeting, held in Singapore on April 23-25, acknowledged the invaluable contributions made by ILSI SEA Region’s extensive network of academic, government, civil society, industry partners, and staff from around the region. In conjunction with the meeting, a scientific symposium was held on April 23. In April, ILSI Taiwan held their 2018 Annual Meeting and one-day scientific symposium ‘Human Health Partners: Microbiome and Health' at National Taiwan University in Taipei. The symposium program was comprehensive, covering the subject matter from basic to advanced, from research to applications and from local to the international perspective. A slate of international and local speakers presented the latest research and insights into the gut microbiome and human health. Read more.

In April during the ILSI India Annual Meeting, ILSI India also organized a Seminar titled “Recent Developments in Food Science and Technology for Better Nutrition”. New Editor-in-Chief

Dr. Douglas Taren

ILSI announces Dr. Douglas Taren as the new editor-in-chief of Nutrition Reviews, effective July 1. Dr. Taren is presently Associate Dean of the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona. He succeeds Dr. Naomi Fukagawa, who has stewarded the journal since 2008 and reaches the end of the position’s tenure limit. Read more.

Increase in Impact Factor

Nutrition Reviews’ 2017 Impact Factor Rises to 5.788

The impact factor for ILSI’s journal, Nutrition Reviews, has increased to 5.788 and the 5-year impact factor has risen to 7.281! This is according to the recently released 2017 Journal Citation Reports© from Clarivate Analytics. A curated collection of the journal’s most highly cited articles can be read for free for a limited time. Access the collection.
